The Mezo Buildathon Is Underway: Build What’s Next for MUSD and MEZO

The Mezo Buildathon is underway. Our third edition kicked off on Friday, October 16, in partnership with AKINDO and powered by Supernormal Foundation. We’ve already received more than 100 registrations.

The program runs through November 15, 2026, with two tracks and $7,000 in MEZO prizes across two development waves. Wave 1 is live now, with first submissions due October 26.

We’re calling on developers to build new uses for MUSD and MEZO: put them to work in DeFi, connect them to products people already use, or make them easier to discover and access. You can start a new project or extend something you already have.

What to Build

This edition focuses on two practical challenges: expanding what MUSD and MEZO can do, and bringing them to more users. Choose a track and bring your own approach.

1. DeFi

Build around borrowing, lending, looping, and yield with MUSD or MEZO. The opportunity is to connect these assets to useful financial products and show how that connection works.

A collateral integration could give users another way to access liquidity, while an auto-compounding vault could automate a process they currently manage by hand. Liquidity pools and DEX integrations can expand where these assets are used. A clearer borrowing or looping interface can make the whole workflow easier to understand.

These are starting points. Pick a problem you understand and build a working solution around it. A focused product with a clear user journey gives people something concrete to try and give feedback on.

2. Access & Distribution

Bring MUSD and MEZO to more people by making them easier to discover, access, and use. A useful integration can begin wherever people already spend their time.

Think Telegram or WhatsApp tools that help users find the right product, discovery platforms that make integrations easier to compare, or marketplaces that bring MUSD and MEZO into everyday transactions. Simpler wallet interfaces can help someone complete a task with fewer confusing steps.

Start with the person using your product: what are they trying to do, and where do they get stuck? The strongest starting point may be a small, familiar frustration. Solve it well, then show how your integration helps.

What You Can Submit

New projects and extensions to existing products are welcome. If you’re already building a lending product, wallet, bot, or another application, a new MUSD or MEZO integration can be your entry.

Every submission must integrate MUSD and/or MEZO and include a working deployment. Projects can deploy on Mezo, Ethereum, Base, or BSC; Mezo testnet submissions are welcome too.

You can build directly for the Mezo ecosystem or bring these assets into an application on another supported network. If you’re extending an existing product, make the new integration easy to find and demonstrate.

Prizes and Schedule

The Buildathon runs in two waves, giving qualifying projects another round to continue developing their work. The $7,000 in MEZO prize pool is split across those waves and covers both tracks.

  • Wave 1 runs from October 16–26 w/ $2,000 in MEZO: build your project and submit by October 26. Eligible projects advance to Wave 2.
  • Wave 2 runs from November 2–15 w/ $5,000 in MEZO: qualifying teams continue developing, with final submissions due November 15.
  • November 23: winners announcement and online demo session.

For Wave 1, focus on the core experience: what your product does, how it uses MUSD or MEZO, and how someone can try it. Teams that advance can use Wave 2 to strengthen the integration, improve the experience, and develop the parts that need more work.

Keep Building After the Buildathon

The best projects can keep building after the Buildathon by applying to Supernormal Foundation’s builder programs. The Mezo Ignition Program supports early projects moving from a prototype toward mainnet, while the Mezo Founder Program is designed for working products with initial traction.

Selected teams can receive support tailored to their stage, including milestone-based grants, integration assistance, and opportunities to reach more users. Explore the programs, review their eligibility criteria, and apply for the path that fits your project.

Get Building

October 26 is the next milestone. Choose the part of your idea you can make useful now and get that working. Make it easy for someone encountering your project for the first time to understand the problem, see where MUSD or MEZO fits, and try the main workflow.

If you’re discovering the Buildathon now, visit AKINDO for participation details and submission instructions. Bring questions about your idea or where it fits to the Mezo Discord.
