The Mezo Hackathon: Build Bitcoin Finance in 4 Weeks
$37,500 MUSD + 37,500 Mezo incentives* in prizes. 3 tracks. 4 weeks. Build Bitcoin's financial future with Mezo.

Mezo believes Bitcoin is the most resilient collateral in the world, and it’s time to tap in.
Join the Mezo Hackathon starting October 6, 2025, and compete for a share of $37,500 MUSD and 37,500 Mezo incentives*. This is a 4-week, online event for developers ready to build the next generation of financial applications on Bitcoin.
Hackathon Schedule:
- Starts: Monday, October 6, 2025
- Week One: Technical Workshops
- Pre-submission Checkpoint: Monday, October 27, 2025
- Final Submission Deadline: Sunday, November 2, 2025
Your Mission
The central challenge of this hackathon is to build an app or service that supports Mezo’s self-service Bitcoin banking infrastructure.
Mezo introduces a straightforward model. Anyone can deposit Bitcoin as collateral and borrow MUSD—the Bitcoin-backed stablecoin—at a fixed 1% rate. Borrowers never give up custody of their position and can put MUSD to work across the DeFi ecosystem to earn yield, make payments, or send remittances, all while holding on to their Bitcoin exposure.
Builders will take these powerful building blocks and turn them into applications that make this vision real. Every project must integrate MUSD and Mezo Passport and be deployed as a working demo on the testnet.
Your Path
Select one of three tracks based on your target audience:
- Advanced DeFi Solutions
- Target: Traders, institutions, and DeFi users.
- The Goal: Build the high-performance engines of everyday Bitcoin finance. Think multi-layered yield strategies, automated liquidation systems, cross-protocol arbitrage bots, institutional-grade vaults, Bitcoin derivatives platforms, or even prediction markets. Push the boundaries of what’s possible with capital efficiency and advanced risk management.
2. Financial Access & Mass Adoption
- Target: Everyday users, the underbanked, and those new to crypto.
- The Goal: Abstract away the complexity and deliver real-world utility. Create simple, intuitive services that feel as familiar as today's top fintech apps but are built on the decentralized foundation of Bitcoin. Think accessible savings tools, seamless payment apps, and low-cost remittance solutions that empower financial liberty.
3. Daily Bitcoin Applications
- Target: Everyone.
- The Goal: Weave Bitcoin into the fabric of our digital lives. Develop applications integrating MUSD into experiences people already know and love, from gaming and social media to e-commerce and entertainment. Bridge the gap between crypto-natives and mainstream audiences with clever, useful integrations.
Your Prize
There is a $37,500 MUSD prize pool plus 37,500 Mezo incentives* with milestone-based vesting to support continued development. Throughout the hackathon, you'll get direct access to the Mezo core team and other industry experts for guidance and support.
Prizes for Each Track:
- First Place: $7,500 MUSD + 7,500 Mezo incentives*
- Second Place: $3,000 MUSD + 3,000 Mezo incentives*
- Community Choice: $2,000 MUSD + 2,000 Mezo incentives*
Additionally, top projects will be invited to showcase their work in-person at Devconnect.
This event is presented in partnership with the Supernormal Foundation, the builder-first organization created to accelerate BitcoinFi innovation. Backed by Thesis and supported by leading advisors like Arthur Hayes, Dan Held, Dovey Wan, and Will Reeves, the Foundation combines deep experience in Bitcoin products with capital, mentorship, and go-to-market support.
As a result, the Mezo Hackathon will offer participants more than a one-time prize; they will gain access to an entire ecosystem of support.
Requirements & Judging Criteria
All submissions must meet several key requirements to be eligible for prizes. Projects must fundamentally integrate MUSD and Mezo Passport, and a working demo must be deployed on the testnet by the final deadline. All work must be original and developed during the hackathon. Please note that KYB (Know Your Business) verification will be required for all winning teams to facilitate prize distribution.
A panel of judges will evaluate submissions based on five core criteria. The most weight will be given to Mezo Integration (30%), which assesses the effective use of MUSD and Mezo Passport, and Technical Implementation (30%), which covers code quality, security, and architecture. Business Viability & Use Case will account for 20% of the score, focusing on problem-solution fit and market potential. The final scores will be rounded out by User Experience (10%) and Presentation Quality (10%), which evaluates the clarity of the pitch and demo.
