Yes. Mezo is fully non-custodial and onchain. You keep control of your assets at all times through your connected wallet. There are no intermediaries, banks, or centralized platforms holding your funds.

You can earn yield on Bitcoin by depositing BTC-backed assets like tBTC, WBTC, or cbBTC into Upshift's managed vaults. Once deposited, you receive a token representing your position. Pre-launch, you'll earn ecosystem points, and after Mezo mainnet launch, real yield. It’s a way to put your Bitcoin to work without needing to sell it or move it to centralized platforms.

Yes, your BTC-backed asset is held in a vault while you earn yield. You maintain ownership to withdraw your assets, and your position remains 100% backed by Bitcoin. While it’s not instantly withdrawable (3-month lock-up for pre-launch), you can reclaim your Bitcoin by redeeming your vault token whenever you're ready. This structure ensures that your BTC continues to generate value while staying secure.

Mezo doesn’t use traditional staking, which often involves slashing or network penalties. Instead, your yield comes from participating in the Mezo ecosystem, earning rewards tied to your BTC-backed deposit. That said, like all DeFi protocols, there are risks:

- Smart contract vulnerabilities

- Market fluctuations affecting the value of your BTC or rewards

- Protocol-level bugs or governance changes

Mezo reduces these risks by building on time-tested infrastructure like tBTC, and by being fully transparent and open-source.

At mainnet launch, all vault deposits will be bridged to Mezo. On Mezo, Upshift will strategically allocate the BTC to generate yield on Mezo through: liquidity pools on the Mezo DEX, the MUSD Savers Rate, and additional protocols across the BitcoinFi ecosystem.

Deposits for the pre-launch vault are only accessible for EVM wallet users as it is done via Upshift's infrastructure. Once the vaults are bridged to Mezo mainnet, Bitcoin wallets can interact with the vault.
